Former Duquesne forward Diana Voynova leads the Italian A2 Division in rebounds

Former Duquesne forward Diana Voynova plays for Castellammare di Stabia in Italy. The team, also known as "Stabia Basket", plays in the Italian A2 Division. The team is located in Castellammare di Stabia which is about 20 miles southeast from Naples.

The starting power forward on Stabia, Voynova averaged a double-double of 16.8 points per game (fifth best in the league) and a league-best 13.4 rebounds per game. She also averaged 3.3 steals per game.

In Stabia's final contest of the season on May 9th, Voynova tied her career-high by scoring 33 points on 15-of-19 shooting from the field. She also pulled down a game-best 16 rebounds in Stabia's 79-43 victory over Viterbo. The 6-3 forward pulled down 22 rebounds twice and recorded 19 double-doubles in 27 games played. She was named Serie A2/Girone C Player of the Week on Jan. 23rd.

Stabia, who ended the regular season in sixth place, finished the Second Stage 9-2 and in first place in their seven-team group.

Voynova, who played two seasons in England, led Team Northumbria to its first-ever National Cup Championship. After finishing the season with 14.5 points and 11.4 rebounds, Voynova was named All-EBL1 Honorable Mention by Eurobasket.

Prior to that, she played one season for Dunav Ruse 8806 of the Bulgarian National League.

Voynova played in 62 games in her two seasons with Duquesne leading them to a 44-23 record and two appearances in the WNIT. In 2011, the Dukes advanced to the WNIT's Sweet 16 after victories over Kent State and at Kansas. She scored 105 career points and hauled in 156 career rebounds for the Dukes. Her best individual game was on Dec. 29, 2009 when she recorded double-double in a 72-63 win at #19 Pittsburgh with career-best 10 points and 10 rebounds.
