Robinson Named to Lieberman Award Watch List

Feb. 6, 2015

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Duquesne junior guard April Robinson has been named among 31 finalists for the 2015 Nancy Lieberman Award as announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Friday afternoon. The award is bestowed annually on the top point guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. This watch list will be narrowed down to 15 and then 5 by mid-March. The winner of this award will be presented at the WBCA Award Show in Tampa, Florida at the Women's Final Four.

Robinson, who was named MVP of the Ball State Federal Credit Union Thanksgiving Classic at Ball State, finished the event with 33 points, a 52.2 shooting percentage (12-of-23), nine assists to three turnovers and 7-of-11 (52.2 percent) from 3-point range. She set a then-career-high with 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting against Jackson State and tied her career-high with 11 assists against Pittsburgh. She scored a career-high 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting, including 8-of-9 3-pointers at Lehigh.

"Our Women's Basketball program is very proud of April being nominated to the Lieberman Award list," said head coach Dan Burt. "It's a rare honor to be considered one of the best at your position in college basketball, especially when you are a junior and still have your senior year ahead of you. April is our catalyst. She makes us go on offense. She leads us on and off the court through her words, but more so her actions and work ethic. We are happy that April is being recognized for what she is: an outstanding point guard and young woman."

Robinson is currently 1st in the A-10 and 21st in the NCAA with a 2.35 assists-to-turnover ratio. She ranks 3rd in the A-10 in assists with 108 and is 3rd in the A-10 and 47th in the NCAA averaging 4.9 per game. She is 1st in the A-10 with 66 3-pointers made and 3.0 3-pointers per game. Robinson has scored in double-figures in every game but one this season.
