PITTSBURGH - Micah Mason scored a career-high 28 points - including a career high-tying six 3-pointers - as Duquesne rode an early 3-point barrage to a 95-75 win over New Orleans at Palumbo Center.

The Dukes hit six of their first eight 3-point attempts - including three by Mason - to jump out to a 21-7 lead. DU hit 11-of-12 shots over a 10 minute span to make it a 38-14 game with 5:25 left.

All 10 Dukes who played, scored in a first half that ended with Duquesne up 54-27. Five players hit at least one 3-pointer as Duquesne shot 70 percent in the opening 20 minutes.

"We absolutely had it in the first half," said Duquesne head coach Jim Ferry. "We had a great disposition. In the second half we kind of came out a little loose and then when we addressed it - and we needed it - we ended up getting it back."

UNO briefly pulled to within 20 in the second half before Mason, currently the second most-accurate 3-point shooter in NCAA history, drilled a pair of 3-pointers to make it a 25-point game with just over 8 minutes left.

Derrick Colter added 15 points and Jeremiah Jones scored 12 for the Dukes who finished at 61.5 percent.

Mason finished 10-of-13 from the field and 6-of-9 from 3-point.

"He has been taught the right way to play, so he doesn't want to shoot all the time," said Ferry of Mason. "Yet, I'm telling him, `no, you've got to be more aggressive,' because he has the ability to do so. Again, with Micah, he's not just a 3-point shooter. He's a deadly 3-point shooter, don't get me wrong, but the kid really knows how to play. He can break guys down off the dribble and make layups and get fouled. This is the way we need Micah to play."

Colter had seven assists and Mason five for the Dukes who assisted on 25 of 32 field goals.

Darius Lewis had a game-high 11 rebounds for DU.

Michael Zeno led New Orleans with 23 points.

"We played really unselfishly and I thought we played really hard," said Ferry. "Now it's about getting better. We've got two days of practice prior to Penn State and now it's about getting better every day."

Duquesne hosts Penn State at CONSOL Energy Center on Friday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m.

NOTES:

• Mason's previous career high was 24 set against George Washington last season ... it was the third time in his career that he has hit six 3-pointers in a game ... Mason, who has 201 3-pointers in 88 games, must maintain a 2.0 made/g. average to qualify.

• Duquesne scored 18 of its first 21 points via the 3-pointer with Mason going 3-of-3 in the first 6:40

• Duquesne's largest lead was 29 points (54-25) with three seconds left in the first half.
