PITTSBURGH - Derrick Colter scored a game-high 16 points and Dominique McKoy grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds, as Duquesne held George Mason to the lowest field goal percentage by a Dukes opponent in 29 years in posting a 62-53 win over the Patriots at Palumbo Center.

The Dukes limited Mason to 25.8 percent shooting - the lowest since Rutgers shot 24.5 percent in a 65-54 loss to the Dukes on Dec. 6, 1986 - in ending their six-game losing streak.

Isaiah Jackson led George Mason with 12 points. 6-11 center Shevon Thompson, who entered the game averaging a team-high 13.5 ppg. for Mason, was held to five points.

George Mason hit just four of 29 shots as Duquesne built a 22-15 halftime lead. Jordan Stevens, who finished with 10 points off the bench, had six and Darius Lewis also had six for the Dukes who shot 29 percent in the opening 20 minutes.

The two teams were a combined 2-of-21 from 3-point in the first half (1-10 for George Mason and 1-11 for Duquesne).

DU hit four of its first six shots of the second half, taking a 32-19 lead on a Micah Mason 3-pointer at the 17:41 mark.

The Dukes briefly led by 14 before George Mason hit its stride to pull to within nine. The Patriots had a chance to cut it to seven with just under 12 minutes left when Stevens, who just had his shot blocked, raced down the floor to block Marquise Moore's breakaway layup attempt. Colter followed with a 3-pointer to make it a 12-point game.

George Mason hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut it to 46-41 with 5:12 left, before Colter - who scored 14 in the second half - hit a pair of free throws to make it a seven-point game.

Mason pulled to within five on a pair of Jackson free throws with 4:14 left, but the Dukes answered by scoring the next six points - including four from Jeremiah Jones - to make it 54-43.

Mason could get no closer than eight the rest of the way as Duquesne, which shot a season-best 87.5 percent from the foul line, hit 11-of-12 in the second half.

DU, which finished at 40.0 percent from the field, outrebounded the Patriots 45-41.

Micah Mason joined Colter and Stevens in double figures with 10 points. McKoy and Jones had nine each and Lewis added eight for the Dukes.

Duquesne is idle until next Saturday, when it heads to North Carolina for its first-ever meeting with Atlantic 10 newcomer Davidson on Feb. 7 at 7:00 p.m. (Atlantic 10 Network / PCNC locally).

NOTES

• The win snapped a six-game losing streak and three-game home losing streak.

• This was the second time Duquesne held an opponent under 30 percent from the field this season ... Bluefield State shot 27.1% in a 91-51 opening day loss to the Dukes on Nov. 15 ... it was the lowest field goal percentage by a DU opponent since Rutgers went 13-of-53 from the field (24.5%) in a 65-54 loss to the Dukes on Dec. 6, 1986.

• George Mason went 4-of-29 from the field in scoring a Jim Ferry Era opponent low 15 first-half points ... the 15 points were the fewest scored against the Dukes in a half since Savannah State had 13 in the first half of a 58-44 loss on Dec. 5, 2009.

Dominique McKoy had nine of his career high 16 rebounds in the first half ... McKoy's previous career best was 12 at Saint Louis on Jan. 14 ... the 16 boards were the most by a DU player since Damian Saunders had 16 at George Washington on Feb. 6, 2010.

• Colter had six assists and three steals to go along with his 16 points.

• There were two ties and three lead changes before Darius Lewis gave the Dukes the lead for good on a bucket with 9:31 to go in the first half ... George Mason's largest lead was three at 8-5 ... DU largest lead was 14 (34-20) with 16:38 left.
