WASHINGTON, D.C. - George Washington scored its first 18 points from the 3-point arc in racing to a 40-18 halftime lead and going on to defeat Duquesne 74-59 at Smith Center.
Patricio Garino led three Colonials in double figures with 18 points. Joe McDonald hit four of GW's 12 3-pointers in adding 16.
Derrick Colter led Duquesne with 12.
GW, which hit six of its first nine 3-point attempts, held the Dukes to two field goals - both by Jordan Stevens - over the final nine minutes of the first half.
The score was tied at 9-9 at the 15 minute mark, before the Colonials went on to outscore the Dukes 31-9 over the remainder of the half.
GW shot 53.6 percent, including 9-of-17 from 3-point in the opening 20 minutes. Duquesne shot 38.9 percent.
George Washington picked up where it left off by hitting its first two 3-point attempts of the second half, in building its lead to a game-high 36 points with just over 13 minutes left.
Duquesne closed the game with a 12-1 run - fueled by seven points from Desmond Ridenour - for the final margin.
George Washington, which assisted on 17 of its 25 field goals, finished 12-of-24 from the arc in shooting 48.1 percent overall.
Duquesne was 5-of-15 from 3-point in shooting 44.0 percent for the game.
Duquesne completes a stretch of three games in seven days when it heads to Virginia to face Richmond on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. (Atlantic 10 Digital Network).
NOTES
- The Dukes assisted on just nine of 22 field goals.
- GW, which had 13 offensive rebounds, finished with a 33-26 advantage on the glass.
- Desmond Ridenour came off the bench to hit all three of his shots in scoring a season high seven points in 10 minutes ... Ridenour entered the game with 15 points in his first 10 games.
- Jordan Robinson had two points and four rebounds in 14 minutes ... the 14 minutes tied his season high set vs. Pitt and tied vs. UMass Lowell ... this was just his second appearance since Dec. 28 (the last was the Atlantic 10 opener on Jan. 3 at Dayton).
- Duquesne's 18 first half points and 26 rebounds were both season lows ... the nine assists and one blocked shot tied season lows.
- Duquesne never led ... George Washington's largest lead was 36 at 63-27 with 12:35 left ... there was one tie (at 9-9).
