Women's Basketball to Host Akron in WNIT

PITTSBURGH- The Duquesne women's basketball team has accepted a bid to play in the 2013 Women's National Invitation Tournament. The Dukes (23-7) will host Akron (23-9) out the Mid-American Conference on Thursday, March 21st at 7:00 p.m.

The winner of the Duquesne/Akron game will play the winner of Bowling Green and SMU.

This is the fifth consecutive postseason appearance for Duquesne. Last season, the Dukes fell in overtime at Cincinnati 68-63.

NOTES

  • Duquesne leads the all-time series 4-1 over Akron
  • In the last contest, the Dukes defeated the Zips 77-70 on Dec. 14, 2011 at the Palumbo Center
  • The teams previously met on 12/15/84 (DUQ 67-62), 12/03/05 (DUQ 72-54), 12/05/06 (UA 55-43) and 12/01/10 (DUQ 69-58)
  • The Dukes are 2-4 all-time in the WNIT and 1-3 in the WNIT First Round
