Women's Basketball Releases 2011-12 Non-Conference Schedule

PITTSBURGH - Three 2011 NCAA Championship teams, a holiday trip to Gainesville, Fla., and the annual City Game highlight the 15-game Duquesne women's basketball non-conference schedule released today.

The 2011-12 season will open on Friday, November, 11th in Loretto, Pa. when the Dukes visit two-time defending Northeast Conference champion Saint Francis, Pa. The Dukes hold a 21-6 all-time series advantage over the Red Flash including an 84-69 victory last season. The game will also mark the second year of a "competitive" food drive between the two programs.

On Monday, November 14th Duquesne opens its home slate against Buffalo. The Bulls are the first of four teams from the Mid-American Conference on the non-conference schedule. Last season, Duquesne was a 67-53 winner over UB.

Duquesne will embark on its first-ever trip to the Dakotas for a pair of games beginning Sunday, November 20th against the University of North Dakota out of the Great West Conference. The Dukes will remain the Peace Garden State for a matchup against North Dakota State from the Summit League on Tuesday, November 22nd. The Dukes handed the Bison a 64-48 loss last season at the Palumbo Center.

Coming off of Thanksgiving break, Duquesne will host Davidson out of the Southern Conference on Sunday, November 27th beginning a six-game home stand. The Dukes last faced the Wildcats in 2009 - winning 74-71 - as part of the Hampton Inn Invitational in Wilmington, N.C.

On Saturday, December 3rd Ohio will visit the Palumbo Center. The Dukes have won four straight over the Bobcats including last season's 82-52 victory in Athens. Miami University will make its first-ever trip to the Palumbo Center on Tuesday, December 6th. Duquesne put up a season-high in points in its 91-65 win over the RedHawks last season. Both teams are members of the Mid-American Conference.

On Sunday, December 11th when Duquesne hosts Morehead State. The Eagles are coming off a 21-win season. The Dukes have played the Eagles twice in the series - the first was Coach Serio's debut game, a 69-52 win in 2007 and an 83-57 win in 2008.

The final Mid-American Conference opponent on the non-conference schedule in Akron on Wednesday, December 14th. The Dukes were 69-58 winners over the Zips last season.

The home stand closes out with on Saturday, December 17th against West Virginia from the Big East Conference. The Mountaineers are coming off a 24-win season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship last season.

Before Christmas break, the Dukes will take part in the Gator Holiday Classic hosted by the University of Florida. On Tuesday, December 20th Duquesne will play Maine from the America East Conference. The Dukes will face either Florida (Southeastern Conference) or Charleston Southern (Big South) on Wednesday, December 21st.

On Wednesday, December 28th, Duquesne will head down Forbes Ave. to the Petersen Events Center to take on cross-town rival Pittsburgh from the Big East Conference in the annual City Game. Last year, the Dukes were 70-62 winners over the Panthers.

On New Year's Eve, as part of a double-header with the men's team, Duquesne will host Robert Morris from the Northeast Conference. Last season, the Dukes were 61-34 winners over the Colonials and set a school record for least points allowed against a Division I team.

The non-conference season closes out at James Madison on Monday, January 3rd. JMU are the two-time defending Colonial Athletic Association champions and are coming off a 26-win season.

The Atlantic 10 Conference will be releasing its schedule on Thursday afternoon.
