Agunbiade Leads Canada to 64-52 Victory Over USA

PUERTO MONTT, Chile - Wumi Agunbiade's 15 points and game-high nine rebounds led Canada to a 64-52 victory over the United States and a berth into the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship for Women quarterfinal round. This was the first time Canada defeated the USA since 1975.

Agunbiade was 7-for-14 from the floor and four of her nine boards were on the offensive end.


The Canadians jumped out to a 20-10 first quarter lead, and though the USA made runs in the third quarter and early in the fourth, Canada was able to hold off the Americans.


By improving to 6-0 overall, Canada is has the highest ranking in the E Group and will play 3-3 Spain, who is the fourth place team in the F Group. The game is scheduled for Friday at 1:30 p.m.
