SOPRON, Hungary - Dukes' guard/forward Orsi Szecsi is playing for the Hungarian National Team this summer in the EuroBasket Basket Additional Qualifying Tournament. The event is being held in Sopron, Hungary which is approximately 120 northwest of Szecsi's hometown of Budapest.
The majority of the players in this tournament play in the EuroLeague, which is considered on of the finest in the world.
The Hungarians have won all four of their games and have advanced to the final round against Germany. The squads will compete in a two-legged tie contest, which means the winning team is determined by the sum of scores of both games.
The first game will be held on June 12th followed by the final contest on 15th.
GAME RECAPS Game 1
Hungary goes on a 19-0 run early in the first quarter to open a 21-point lead against the Netherlands and never looked back in its 68-39 victory. Szecsi hit five-of-nine shots and finished the contest with 12 points and six rebounds.
Game 2
Hungary used a 15-4 run during the second quarter to take a 39-29 halftime lead over Finland in Game 2. The Hungarian players used their EuroLeague and EuroCup experience to keep Finland at bay for the rest of the game as they secured their second victory of the event, 65-51. Szecsi had a game-high eight rebounds.
Game 3
Hungary seized control of Group A in the EuroBasket Women AQT with their third straight victory, beating Ukraine 68-56. Hungary broke open the game in the second quarter, scoring the first nine points to take a 25-13 lead. Ukraine closed the gap to five points midway through the third quarter, but a 13-3 run capped by a Szecsi jumper to close the quarter helped the Hungarians improve to 3-0.
Game 4
Hungary finished the first phase of the EuroBasket Women AQT after its 71-57 victory against Bulgaria which clinched its place in the AQT playoff final. Leading by one point at 43-42 at the 6:12 mark of the third quarter, Hungary finished the contest on a 28-15 run.
