NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - After averaging 14.5 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game, Orsi Szecsi was named Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week
The 6-3 forward/guard led the Dukes (22-7, 9-5 A-10) to a pair of wins over Charlotte and Rhode Island.
Szecsi scored 18 of her career-high 23 in the second half as the Dukes outscored then third place Charlotte 36-13 over the last 15 minutes of the game giving DU its program-best 21st win of the season. She also had career-bests with seven field goals and eight free throws. She tied the game-high by grabbing eight rebounds in Duquesne's 88-49 win over Rhode Island to close out the regular season.
Szecsi, who won the rookie of the week award in the season's first week, earns her second award. Along with fellow freshman Wumi Agunbiade, Duquesne was honored a program-best eight times this season.
The Dukes, who clinched a #3 seed, are off until Saturday night when they will face the winner of Fordham and Dayton. Tipoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
