CINCINNATI - Xavier's Ta'Shia Phillips recorded a double-double of a game-high 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting and 11 rebounds to lead the sixth ranked Musketeers to a 77-51 victory over the Duquesne women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon.
Amber Harris also recorded a double-double with and a game-best 12 boards for XU who improved to 23-2, 12-0 A-10.
The Dukes (20-7, 7-5 A-10) were led by Samantha Pollino who scored 11 points.
The Musketeers held the Dukes scoreless until a Diana Voynova jumper at 16:49 of the first half. By then XU had built a seven point lead at 9-2.
Special Jennings 3-pointer at 15:20 gave Xavier a double-digit lead at 14-2. By the midway point of the half, the lead grew to 17 points at 25-8/
A layup by Phillips closed out the first half scoring with XU up 38-18.
A Shatyra Hawkes foul shot with 3:38 left in regulation gave the Musketeers its largest lead of the game - 35 points at 75-40.
The Dukes would end the game on an 11-2 run with Vanessa Abel, Ahjah Hall and Wumi Agunbiade each recording baskets.
Up next for Duquesne will be third place Charlotte (21-6, 9-3 A-10). The Dukes and 49ers will tipoff Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
GAME NOTES
- With her ninth point with 18:28 remaining in the second half, Pollino moved ahead of Kris Sebastian into fifth place on the Dukes' all-time scoring list - she now 1,377 career pointshas
- At the 8:37 mark of the first half, Kelly Britcher's 3-pointer was her 700th career point - this was also the 300th straight game in which Duquesne has hit a 3-pointer
- The Dukes' five-game winning streak on television has come to an end
