WASHINGTON, D.C. - For the first time this season, the Duquesne volleyball team has played back-to-back 5-set matches. Unfortunately, the opponent has come out on top both times. On Saturday night, George Washington defeated the Dukes 3-2 at the Smith Center, one night after a comeback fell short at Charlotte 3-2.

Sara Scheirman had a team high 21 kills and added 12 digs. Allison Foschia had 14 kills and 12 digs. Taylor Jones led the Dukes with 57 assists and Patti Abshire had a team-high 20 digs. Ashley Buse and Liz Homan had three blocks apiece for the Dukes to fall to 17-10 overall and 7-6 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Lauren Whyte, who had 18 kills when the team met on Sept. 22nd, had a match-best 25 kills. Candace Silvia-Martin recorded 27 digs and Katie Crosby had 54 assists for the Colonials who improve to 19-8 overall and move ahead of the Dukes in the A-10 standings with a conference record of 8-5.

The Dukes won the first and third sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-20 while GW took the second and fourth sets 25-16 and 31-29

The Colonials won the first three points of the fifth set., but the Dukes would tie the score at 5-5 after an Arielle Love kill. The set would see three more ties at 6-6, 10-10- and 11-11. Then GW's Bianca Rouse took over. Rouse would have three kills as the Colonials won the next four points to take the set 15-11 and the match 3-2.

The Dukes play one non-conference match on Wednesday against Pittsburgh at the Fitzgerald Fieldhouse before going to Philadelphia to finish the regular season against Temple on Friday and La Salle on Saturday.
