Duquesne Soccer Explodes for Four Goals, Blanks UMass

Junior Joshua Patterson tallied three straight second half goals and sophomore Simon Gomez scored once in the first half to give Duquesne a 4-0 triumph over visiting Massachusetts Friday evening on Rooney Field.

Leading 1-0 at the break, Patterson scored his first goal in the 48th minute off assists from Gomez and senior Eric Drewenskus. He tallied his second score less than a minute later on passes from juniors Carter Poe and Nathan McCann to make it 3-0.

He completed the trifecta in the 77th minute off a pass from sophomore Alvaro Cabal to complete the scoring.

The Gomez goal came in the 24th minute with freshman Filip Velasevic recording the assist.

Senior Colin Thorp registered his second shutout of the season, making three saves.

The Dukes return to action on Sunday, Oct. 13 as they host Rhode Island at 1:00 pm on Rooney Field.
