NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - After recording a double-double in both of Duquesne's games last week, Wumi Agunbiade has been named Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week.
Agunbiade averaged a double-double of 14.5 points and 11.0 rebounds for the Dukes - 15 points and 12 rebounds against Richmond on Jan. 19 and 14 points and 10 rebounds at La Salle. She also added a career-high five assists against the Explorers.
This is the fifth time this season Agunbiade has been honored by the conference. Beth Friday also was named A-10 Rookie of the Week five time during the 1999-00 season and Korie Hlede was ROW six times (which includes one co-rookie of the week honor) during the 1994-95 season.
The Dukes (16-3, 3-1), winners of 10 straight on the road, travel to our nation's capital for a Wednesday evening game at George Washington (5-13, 0-4). Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.
