Duquesne's men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with visiting 21st-ranked West Virginia Wednesday evening at Rooney Field.
After an even first half, the Dukes controlled play for most of the second half, outshooting the Mountaineers, 8-3 in the period highlighted by several scoring opportunities in the final 22 minutes of regulation.
In the 68th minute, senior Stefan Lundberg got open for a split second and fired a shot from the left side that was saved by the WVU keeper. Eighth minutes later, freshman Simon Gomez had a shot on goal stopped, followed by another Lundberg attempt that went just wide right in the 77th minute.
The play of the game came in the 87th minute as Gomez was fouled in the box and Lundberg took the penalty shot that was saved in the top, right corner of the goal. Lundberg got another shot off a minute later that was blocked before sophomore Eric Drewenskus fired a shot wide of the goal forcing overtime.
Halfway through the first OT, Gomez had a scoring attempt that went wide and senior Tyler Tompkins followed with a wide shot in the second extra period.
In all, the Dukes outshot the Mountaineers, 15-13 and senior Chris Torres and his supporting backfielders notched their second shutout.
The Dukes return to action on Sunday, Oct. 3 as they travel to Buffalo for their final non-conference outing of the season.
