Duquesne's men's soccer team defeated visiting Belmont Saturday evening, 2-1 in overtime on senior Cory Bachstein's penalty kick goal 3:11 into the extra period.
The Dukes and Bruins played a fairly even first half before the Bruins found the back of the net with just 49 seconds remaining in the period to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission.
The Red and Blue controlled play in the second half though, outshooting Belmont, 16-1 and holding an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks. Junior Tyler Tompkins recorded his second goal of the season as Adam Clement lofted a free kick over the Belmont defense and Tompkins buried it to tie the score in the 69th minute.
The Dukes had numerous scoring chances in the remainder of regulation, but could not capitalize.
A little over three minutes into overtime, Bachstein was taken down from behind in the left side of the box and was awarded a penalty kick and capitalized for the DU victory.
The Dukes outshot the Bruins 25-5 in the contest and held a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Red and Blue return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 29 as they host West Virginia at 7:30 pm on Rooney Field.
