PITTSBURGH - Towson's Cheyenne Skidmore's one-timer past Dukes keeper Ashley Szalwinski in the 83rd minute broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Tigers a 2-1 victory at Rooney Field on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Dukes fall to 1-2-1 on the season.
After the teams played to a scoreless first half, the Tigers had three scoring chances in the first minute of play, but Szalwinski turned away a pair of shots and a header.
DU would have a couple of scoring chances of their own, but a Paige Maroney shot sailed wide and Towson keeper Jocelyn Papciak stopped Kristin Vinicky in the 55th minute.
The Dukes were the first to get on the board when Maroney scored her first goal of the season after taking a pass from Lauren Ott in the crease.
Five minutes later, TU's Emily Banes tied the contest after converting on a pass from Skidmore.
Towson had a chance to take the lead - Allie Boubouheropoulos found her way past Szalwinski, but Michelle Morren made a goal-saving sliding save to preserve the tie.
The teams exchanged shots before Skidmore found the back of the net for the game-winner.
The next match for the Dukes will be Friday when they travel to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on Bucknell.
