Dukes Split Saturday Double-Header with Rhody

Duquesne's baseball team split a Saturday double-header with visiting Rhode Island, winning game one, 7-6 and dropping game two, 8-7. Andrew Heck went 6-8 at the plate with a couple RBI while Matt Zarin picked up his first win of the season.

In game one, the Dukes trailed for most of the game before scoring two runs in the eighth inning and one in the bottom of the ninth to capture the victory. Zarin kept the Rams off the scoreboard for the final three innings, yielding just two hits to secure the win. Four Dukes had a pair of hits while Johnny Elms knocked in a pair of runs, including the game-winner with a bases-loaded walk.

In game two, the Dukes scored their runs in bunches, posting four tallies in the third inning and three in the seventh. heck was 4-5 in the game with an RBI and a run scored, Chris Kimmeth launched a three-run homer in the seventh which pulled the Red and Blue within one run and Anthony DeFabio knocked in a pair of Dukes. Elms tossed the final four innings without yielding a run to keep the game close. He struck out three Rams and gave up just one hit.

The Dukes will take almost a week off during finals and will return to action on Friday, May 7 as they host Richmond at 3:00 pm in game one of a three-game Atlantic 10 series.
