Duquesne's baseball team won its fourth straight game, downing visiting Temple, 8-6 Friday afternoon at Duquesne Field. Mike Ganley had three hits for the Dukes, scoring twice while Matt Carson knocked in two runs and scored two times.
The Dukes jumped to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second and expanded its advantage to 6-0 with three more tallies in the fourth inning. Temple however, posted five fifth-inning runs to narrow its deficit to a run.
DU responded with one run in the sixth, followed by each team scoring once in the seventh for the final score.
Ganley was 3-4 with two runs scored while Andrew Heck was 1-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored. Anthony DeFabio and Joe Lombardo each homered for the Red and Blue as well. It was DeFabio's sixth of the season and Lombardo's first.
Freshman Robert Corsi pitched the first five innings and collected his first collegiate win while senior Johnny Elms tossed the final four innings, allowing just one unearned run to pick up his first college save.
Game two of the series will be played Saturday at 1:00 pm at Duquesne Field.
