Duquesne's baseball team captured its first non-conference win in nearly a month with a 12-7 victory over visiting Ohio,Wednesday afternoon at Duquesne Field. Two Dukes had three hits a piece while three different DU players drove in a pair of runs each.
Michael Pelekanos set the tone for the game as the starting pitcher, blanking the Bobcats through four innings and allowing just one run in 4 2/3 innings of work to collect his second win of the season. He surrendered four hits and struck out four while walking just one.
Andrew Heck got the Dukes on the board first in the fourth inning by singling to lead off the inning and scoring on Chris Kimmeth's sacrifice fly. The Red and Blue would score two runs in the fifth, two more in the sixth, five in the seventh and two in the eighth.
Heck went 3-3 on the day with an RBI, two walks and three runs scored. Matt Carson was 3-4 with four runs scored, Joe Lombardo was 2-3 with two runs scored and Kimmeth, Mark Tracy and Anthony DeFabio each had a hit and two RBI.
The Dukes return to action on Friday, April 30 as they welcome Rhode Island for the first of three weekend Atlantic 10 games, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
