Duquesne's baseball team won its home opener over visting Youngstown State Tuesday afternoon, 14-8. Andrew Heck homered and drove in four runs while Grant Gillespie collected his first win of the season.
After two scoreless innings, Youngstown State lit the scoreboard first with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Duquesne answered with one in the bottom of the third and five in the bottom of the fourth. The Penguins responded with four in the top of the fifth though to tie it before the Dukes posted the winning run in the bottom of the fifth and seven insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Anthony DeFabio was 4-4 on the day with two RBI and two runs scored. He led off the seven-run seventh inning with his first career home run. Heck followed four batters later with a three-run homer, his third of the season.
Matt Carson was 2-5 with three runs scored and three RBI. Joe Lombardo was 2-4 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored. He also came in to pitch a 1-2-3 ninth inning, fanning two batters.
The Dukes head to La Salle on Thursday for a three-game Atlantic 10 series with the Explorers.
