Game 1 / Game 2 / Game 3
Duquesne's baseball team suffered a three-game sweep at the hands of UNC Wilmington over the weekend in North Carolina. The Dukes fell 14-7 on Friday, 10-1 on Saturday and 4-3 on Sunday. In the series, three Dukes hit over .400 as Andrew Heck went 6-13 (.462), Mark Tracy went 5-11 (455) and Chris Kimmeth went 3-7 (.429).
On Friday, the Dukes got the lead early with a run in the top of the first and held the Seahawks scoreless until they erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth. DU tallied two more runs in the sixth and four in the eighth, but it wasn't enough. Heck went 3-5 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored, Tracy went 3-4 and Rick Devereaux hit his third homer of the season. Robert Corsi tossed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
On Saturday, the Red and Blue gave up a pair of runs in five of the first six innings as Wilmington cruised to victory. Heck went 3-4 in the game while Matt Carson went 2-4 with a run scored. Grant Gillespie pitched the final two scoreless innings.
On Sunday, the Dukes stayed in the game behind the strength of Heck's pitching. He hurled his second complete game in 10 days, allowing just five hits, including the walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth. Devereaux and Tracy each had two hits, including back-to-back solo homers in the fourth.
The Dukes return to action on Tuesday, March 16 as they travel to Kent State for a 3:00 pm contest.
