PITTSBURGH - Vanderbilt's Jasmine Lister scored 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting to lead the Commodores to an 80-59 victory over the Duquesne women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon at the Palumbo Center.

DU's winning streak, which dated back to Nov. 24th, ends at seven games as the Dukes fall to 8-2 on the season.

Wumi Agunbiade led Duquesne with 15 points and eight rebounds. Alex Gensler added 13 points, Samantha Pollino 11 and Vanessa Abel 10.

Christina Foggie scored 17 points, Jence Rhoads 12 and Gabby Smith 10 for VU who improved to 7-3 this season.

The Dukes opened up the contest with a five point lead to go up 7-2 early on, but the Commodores responded with seven straight points in the next 47 seconds to go ahead 9-7.

DU would recapture the lead, 14-13, at the 10:56 mark, but an ensuing 13-0 run over the next two minutes - capped by a Foggie 3-pointer - put VU ahead 26-14.

Vandy would get its largest lead of the half at 13 points after a pair of Smith foul shots with 58 seconds remaining until halftime. Agunbiade's layup followed by Gensler's buzzer beating 3-pointer closed the gap to eight points at 42-34 going into halftime.

Duquesne would cut the Vanderbilt to lead to four points twice in the first two minutes of the second half. The Dukes would remain within 10 points until a Rhoads jumper with 8:14 left made the score 65-55.

DU would get within six points with 6:35 remaining at 65-59, but the Commodores would not allow another Duquesne point the rest of the way and closed out the game on a 15-0 run.

"Vanderbilt is a very good team. They shot the ball well, they executed well," said head Suzie McConnell-Serio. "They made plays and we just couldn't find an answer defensively to limit the number of 3-pointers. "

Vanderbilt finished 9-of-20 from 3-point range for 45 percent.

"They also capitalized on our mistakes off of turnovers and second chance points," added Coach Serio.

The Commodores scored 28 points off 17 Duquesne turnovers and 16 second chance points.

The VU bench outscored the DU bench 29-10.

"They certainly made us earn everything in the game today," concluded Coach Serio.

The Dukes will stay at home to face Saint Francis, Pa. on Dec. 22 at 5:30 p.m. This is part of a double-header with the men's team who plays George Mason at 8:00 p.m.

Duquesne has teamed up with South Hills Interfaith Ministry to sponsor a food drive - bring your non-perishable food and clothing to the game, bins will be set up at each end zone and fans from both programs will bring in as many goods as they can.
