NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Senior forward Samantha Pollino has been named Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week as announced by league offices on Monday.
Pollino led the Dukes to a 2-0 record with wins against Buffalo and North Dakota State last week. She averaged 17.0 points and 8.0 rebounds and hit on 53.8 percent of her shots to help DU improve to 7-1 on the season and extend its winning streak to six games. The Johnstown, Pa. native scored a career-high 24 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds in the Dukes' 67-53 win at UB. She scored 10 points in Duquesne's 64-48 victory over NDSU.
This is this third time she has been named Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week, previously being honored on Feb. 23, 2009 and Jan. 18, 2010.
Up next for the Dukes is Ohio University on Thursday morning. Tipoff, which was originally slated for noon has been moved to 11:00 a.m.
