LET US INTRODUCE OURSELVES: Wednesday marks the first-ever meeting between Miami, Ohio and Duquesne. The RedHawks play in the Mid-American Conference (East Division). Duquesne and Miami share five common opponents this season in Pittsburgh, St. Bonaventure and Saint Francis, Pa.
MIAMI, OHIO LATELY: The RedHawks are 1-2 so far this season. MU opened the season with an 84-71 loss against #9 Kentucky followed by a 76-59 win over Eastern Kentucky and a 96-64 loss at Miami, Fla. MU's leading scorer is sophomore guard Courtney Osborn (15.7 ppg). Junior guard Maggie Boyer (12.0) and sophomore forward Kirsten Olowinski (11.0) also average double-figure scoring.
RETURN OF THE MAC: In addition to Miami, Duquesne will play four other schools from the MAC this season in Akron, Ball State Buffalo and Ohio. Duquesne is 9-15 all-time against the teams in the MAC.
ROAD WARRIORS: Coming off of a school record 11 road wins last year - a mark that was tied for eighth in the NCAA - the Dukes have 16 road games schedule this season. Duquesne is currently in the midst of a six-game road trip that began Nov. 17 at #10 West Virginia and ends Dec. 6th at Buffalo.
O-HI-NO: With Wednesday's game against Miami, Wright State will be the only Division I school from the state of Ohio that Duquesne has never played. The Dukes are 53-64 (.452) against teams from Ohio. In addition to Miami, the Dukes will play Buckeye State teams Akron Dayton, Ohio, Ohio State and Xavier.
A GOOD START TO A CAREER: Orsi Szecsi was named the November 15th Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week. Szecsi scored a team-high 19 points in 29 minutes on 5-of-9 shooting in leading the Dukes to a 70-65 season-opening victory over Lehigh on Nov. 12th. She was 8-of-11 from the line and made her only 3-point attempt while pulling down a team-high six rebounds. Szecsi added four steals and a block in the win. She followed up with 13 points and eight rebounds at #10 West Virginia.
SENIORS STRIVE FOR SIXTY-THREE: This year's senior class of Kelly Britcher, Samantha Pollino and Diana Voynova are looking to become the all-time winningest class in program history. In their three seasons on the Bluff, the trio has been part of 56 wins and need only seven more to surpass the class of 2010 who graduated with 62 victories.
LOOKING AHEAD: After Wednesday's game, Duquesne will travel to cross-town rival Robert Morris on Nov. 28th for a 12 p.m. tipoff. This will be the 41st all-time matchup between the Dukes and Colonials.
