Duquesne's baseball team dropped its home finale to visiting Dayton, 22-12 Monday evening at Duquesne Field.
The Dukes fell behind early as the Flyers jumped to a 15-1 lead after 2 1/2 innings. DU showed signs of a possible come back by scoring six runs in the bottom of the third, but couldn't keep UD from scoring as they tallied runs in each of the first seven innings.
Senior Brian Bernardo, playing in his final game on Duquesne Field, remained the hottest hitting Duke, going 2-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. He also pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
Sophomore Andrew Heck was a double shy of the cycle, hitting a single, triple and home run in his first three at bats while scoring twice and knocking in two. Freshman Derrik Zeroski added two hits and two RBI while senior Bill Torre and sophomore Chris Happ each scored three runs.
Senior Danny Brown tossed a scoreless ninth inning and also collected his first collegiate hit in the bottom of the ninth.
The Dukes return to action on Wednesday, May 6 as they face cross-town foe Pitt at 3:00 pm at PNC Park.
