Game One Box Score / Game Two Box Score
The Duquesne baseball team dropped game one of its Saturday double-header with visiting Fordham, 10-2, but bounced back to win the nightcap, 12-5 on the strength of Gary Pierpont's pitching and Mark Tracy's long balls.
The Dukes got off to a slow start in game one as Fordham built a 9-0 lead after 3 1/2 innings. Brian Bernardo went 2-3 with an RBI and Bill Torre went 2-3 as well, but it wasn't enough as the Red and Blue were outhit, 14-7.
Game two was a different story however as DU tallied a run in the first and six in the third for a commanding 7-0 advantage. Pierpont pitched six innings, striking out eight and allowing just two earned runs to grab his second win while freshman Michael Pelekanos tossed the final three innings to pick up his first collegiate save. Tracy hit two home runs, giving him five round-trippers in the last five games and knocked in four runs. Anthony DeFabio was 2-3 with three runs scored, Bernardo drove in a couple of runs, Derrik Zeroski was 2-4 with and RBI and two runs scored, Rick Devereaux was 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored and Anthony Manley added two hits. The Dukes outhit the Rams, 16-10.
Game three of the series will be played Sunday at noon.
