Duquesne's baseball team opened the 2009 slate with a 13-0 loss at South Carolina in front of a crowd of 8,153 Saturday afternoon at Carolina Stadium. Senior Mike Carroll managed the lone DU hit while fellow senior Brian Bernardo tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

The Dukes and Gamecocks will meet again Sunday at 2:00 pm in game two of the three game series.
