PHILADELPHIA - Kelly Britcher scored 18 points off the bench and Keri Pryor added 17 as the Duquesne women's basketball team defeated Penn 65-58 on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Dukes improve to 4-0 on the season.
Britcher and Pryor each finished the game hitting 7-of-12 shots from the floor.
Sarah Bucar led Penn (0-3) with 12 points.
The Quakers led for most of the low-scoring first half until a Britcher 3-pointer at the 7 minute mark gave the Dukes a 16-15 lead. That started a 13-2 run that put the Dukes up 26-17.
The Dukes took advantage of 14 Penn turnovers which were converted into 18 points as DU took a 30-23 advantage going into halftime.
Early in the second half, the Quakers got within three points of tying the game twice - back-to-back baskets from Jerin Smith cut the Dukes' lead to 36-33 at the 16:24 mark and a pair of foul shots by Kim Adams with 15:49 left made the score 39-36.
Duquesne would respond with a 15-2 run to take their largest lead of the game at 14 points after a Pryor 3-pointer gave the Dukes a 51-37 advantage at with 10:47 left.
Inside of three minutes, with DU leading 62-48, Penn went 10-0 run to make it a two-possession game with 22 seconds left. Capped by a Bucar 3-pointer. However, Duquesne would convert 3-of-4 foul shots and hold the Quakers scoreless down the stretch and come away with the 65-58 victory.
The Dukes return home on Tuesday night when they host West Virginia. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.
