UNIVERSITY PARK - The Duquesne women's track and field team opened up 2009 at Penn State this weekend.
Charlene Garth had the best finish for Duquesne on the afternoon, placing ninth in a field of 32 runners in the 500m dash. She crossed with a time of 1:17.40. Melissa Miller was DU's top finisher in the 200m dash crossing with a time of 25.86.
Lauren Thompson led the Dukes in the 600m run with a time of 1:46.14. Meg Ecker's time of 3:10.30 was tops for DU in the 1000m run. Hannah Ringo placed 15th in a field of 34 in the mile. She finished with time of 5:15.92. Danielle Werley crossed in 10:45.19 in the 3000m run.
The 4x400m relay team of Miller, Kathy Parker, Meghan Wendelken and Garth finished the race in 4:00.16.
Daniela Siciliano was 12th in the pole vault with a distance of 10-11.75.
In the jumps, Sierra Larsuel finished 15th in the long jump with a distance of 16-6. In the throws, Corinne Free led Duquesne in the shot put with a throw of 39-7 and Erin Whitman's weight throw of 46-4.25 was best for the Dukes.
The Dukes head to Albany, N.Y. on Friday for the Great Dane Classic.
