MOON TOWNSHIP, PA - Jenna Farneti's first goal of the season in the 44th minute proved to be the game-winner as the Duquesne women's soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to three matches after the 3-1 victory over cross-town rival Robert Morris Sunday afternoon.
The Dukes got on the board first in the 24th minute as Jessica Szekely set up Shelley Esposito just 29 seconds after the duo subbed in. DU took a 2-0 lead after RMU was off-sides, giving possession to Duquesne. Keeper Gabby Morrin passed to Mackenzie Creehan who found a wide open Farneti for the goal.
Shannon Rengers assisted on a Szekely's first career goal from 30 yards out in the 60th minute.
Morrin's shutout bid was ended in the 64th minute when the Colonials Kathleen Caggiano found the back of the net. That was the only scoring RMU could muster as the Dukes won their second match in a row, 3-1.
After a week off, Duquesne will play their last non-conference match of the season when they visit Wright State on Sept. 21. Kick off is at 1:00 p.m.
