PITTSBURGH - Three NCAA Tournament teams highlight the 2008-09 Duquesne women's basketball non-conference schedule released today.
The Dukes will host Pittsburgh, a Sweet 16 team last season, Dec. 3 in the annual City Game. In addition to the Panthers, DU will visit NCAA Tournament teams West Virginia Dec. 7 and Robert Morris Dec. 14.
Duquesne will play seven times at home and eight on the road outside the Atlantic 10 Conference loop beginning Friday, Nov. 14 against Morehead State in a double-header with the men's team.
The Dukes' additional home opponents will be Cornell, Missouri, Niagara, Penn and Saint Francis, Pa.
On the road the DU will face Binghamton, IPFW, Mount St. Mary's and Towson. The road schedule also includes a pair of games in Miami, Fla. for the University of Miami Holiday Tournament.
Second-year head coach Suzie McConnell-Serio will have over 75 percent of her scoring returning from last season's team, including 2007 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year Kristi Little (16.4 ppg).
"We're excited for the upcoming season. A challenging non-conference season will help us prepare for the Atlantic 10 Conference schedule," said McConnell-Serio. "It's also great to have the local women's basketball teams - Pitt, Robert Morris, Saint Francis, Pa. and West Virginia on the schedule."
Game times will be announced. The Atlantic 10 schedule will be released at a later date.
