PHILADELPHIA - The Duquesne rowing team had three boats participate in the Dad Vail Regatta this weekend. The regatta, held on the Schuylkill River, is the largest collegiate regatta in the United States, with over 100 colleges and Universities from the U.S. and Canada.
The Novice 4+ won their heat with a time of 7:28.3 finished over 10 seconds ahead of North Park. In the finals, the Dukes improved their time by crossing second with a time of 7:26.659, finishing five seconds ahead of Buffalo and seven seconds in front of Purdue. Tulsa won the race with a time of 7:19.592.
The Varsity 4+ advanced from their heats on Friday to the semifinals, but placed third with a time of 7:19.9. Only the top two boats advanced to the finals.
In one of the closest races of the regatta, the Lightweight 8+ (7:04.855) finished in fifth place, less than half a second behind Buffalo, three seconds behind Ohio State and eight seconds behind Virginia Tech.
The Dukes will compete in the IRA Lightweight National Championships May 29-31 in Camden, N.J.
