Duquesne's baseball team moved its Atlantic 10 record to 7-1 with a double-header split Saturday afternoon at Rhode Island. The Dukes lost to the Rams, 7-5 in the first game, then bounced back for a 4-1 triumph in the nightcap.
In game one, the Dukes jumped out to a 4-0, first inning lead, but scored just one run the rest of the game. Mike Carroll and Pat Kimutis each had two hits while Aaron Janusey blasted a three-run homer in the first.
In game two, the Red and Blue jumped to an early lead again as Janusey launched a two-run, first-inning home run. This time the Dukes held the lead as Paul Bugajski tossed the complete game victory, improving his record to 3-3. He allowed just one unearned run while striking out seven Rams. Derek Mechling also had a solo homer to account for the third Duquesne run in the fifth inning.
Game three of the series will be played Sunday at noon.
