Dukes Double Up Kent State, 18-9

April 23, 2008

Box Score

Duquesne's baseball team used a 10-run sixth inning to help power its way to an 18-9 triumph over visiting Kent State Wednesday afternoon at Duquesne Field. The win snapped a six-game DU losing streak as well as a 12-game Kent win streak.

Following Duquesne's 10-run outburst, the clouds opened and caused a 78 minute rain delay, but when it passed, the Dukes added two insurance runs to secure the victory.

Brian Bernardo led the Dukes attack, going 3-3 with two walks, four RBI and four runs scored. Mark Tracy was 3-6 with three RBI and two runs scored and Bill Torre was 2-4 with two walks, three RBI and two runs scored.

Andrew Heck, who started and finished the game at shortstop, pitched the third through sixth innings while striking out four batters to collect his first collegiate win. At the plate, he was 1-3 with two walks, an RBI and two runs scored. Derek Fallecker and Dante Plassio also scored two runs each.

The Red and Blue return to action on Friday as they travel to Charlotte for a three-game series.
