April 1, 2008

Box Score

Duquesne's baseball team battled extremely windy conditions Tuesday afternoon in winning its 11th straight game, downing visiting Ohio, 5-4.

Derek Mechling blasted a three-run homer in the fifth inning to give the Dukes a lead they would not relinquish while freshman Matt Passauer pitched six innings, allowing two unearned runs to capture his first collegiate victory. Danny Brown picked up his second save of the season.

The Dukes lit the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning as Anthony Manley doubled and scored on Mike Carroll's single. After Ohio evened the score in the second inning, the Red and Blue scored again in the fourth as Carroll singled, moved to second on a Mark Tracy single and scored on an Eric Morrison to make it 2-1. The Bobcats tied the score again in the fifth inning before Mechling's home run made it 5-2.

Mike Wilson captures his 300th career coaching victory.

With the win, head coach Mike Wilson registered his 300th career coaching victory.

The Red and Blue hit the road for the next six games, beginning Wednesday as they travel to Youngstown State for a 3:00 pm game.
