Game 1 / Game 2
Duquesne's baseball team extended its winning streak to a school record nine games with a double-header sweep of St. Bonaventure Saturday afternoon at Duquesne Field. The Dukes won game one, 10-3 and captured game two in the bottom of the ninth, 3-2.
The Dukes' winning streak is a school record versus Division I opponents and is the longest Duquesne winning streak since the 1987 team won 10 straight versus D2 and D3 competition.
In game one, Ryan Juran captured his third straight victory, hurling seven innings while allowing three runs. Jeremy Gerger tossed the final two scoreless innings to pick up his second save of the season. Anthony Manley went 4-5 at the plate with three runs scored, Mike Caroll went 3-4 with a run and an RBI, Pat Kimutis was 2-3 with three RBI and Eric Morrison was 2-4 with two homers and four RBI.
In the nightcap, Paul Bugajski tossed a gem, pitching 8 1/3 innings, allowing two runs and striking out five while walking none. Matt Zarin pitched the final 2/3 of the game to pick up his first collegiate victory. Bill Torre, Andrew Heck, Mark Tracy and Derek Mechling each had two hits. Torre drove in the game-tying run in the bottom of the eighth while Kimutis scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth.
Game three of the series will be played Sunday at noon.
