PHILADELPHIA - Temple's Ashley Morris had a game-high 27 points and Lady Comfort had a double-double of 16 points and a career-best 18 rebounds as Temple held off a late Duquesne run in their 74-66 win at the Liacouras Center Sunday afternoon.
Morris, who was 11-22 from the field, led Temple to their ninth consecutive win against the Dukes (11-14, 2-8).
Samantha Pollino, who was one point shy of tying her career-high, led DU with 17 points. Kristi Little was a perfect 11-11 from the foul line and Kelly Britcher scored 12 points off the bench.
Duquesne, trailing by eight at the 9:52 mark of the second half, went on a 13-5 run to tie the score at 60-60 behind eight consecutive points from Pollino with 4:42 left. A Comfort foul shot followed by a Morris layup gave the Owls a three point lead with 2:46 to play.
Britcher's layup at the 3:04 mark cut the TU lead to one point. Morris and Lauren Reinshuttle exchanged jumpers to make the score 65-64 before the Owls went on a 7-0 run to ice the game behind a pair of Comfort foul shots with 27 seconds remaining.
Temple dominated in the paint, outscoring Duquesne 40-22. The Owls also had great ball control with only seven turnovers compared to 12 assists. The teams both shot 44 percent from the field.
The Dukes return home to host Massachusetts on Wednesday. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.
