PITTSBURGH - Sabrina Gregory scored 20 points - including the go-ahead jumper - to lead Charlotte to a 67-57 win over Duquesne in the Atlantic 10 Conference opener Saturday night.
Kristi Little scored 20 points and Samantha Pollino had 12 points for the Dukes who dropped to 9-7, 0-1 on the season.
Charlotte rallied from 10 points down in the first half to get within three points - 36-33 - on a Shannon McCallum 3-pointer right before halftime.
With the game tied at 44-44, a Gregory foul shot gave the 49ers their first lead since the 10:54 mark of the first half. A layup by Pollino and a 3-pointer by Little put the Dukes up by four points, 49-45, with 13:40 remaining in the contest. Charlotte would score six of the next eight points to tie the game at 51-51 before Gregory's jumper gave the 49ers the lead with 10:23 left.
Duquesne got within two points twice, but Charlotte ended the game on a 10-2 run to give them a 67-57 road victory.
The Dukes, who missed their first six shots of the game, shot a season-low 29.0 percent from the field and only connected on 18 total field goals. Charlotte outscored Duquesne in the paint 32-20.
The Atlantic 10 Conference season continues for Duquesne as they travel to Saint Louis to take on the Billikens on Jan. 16.
