PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne men's soccer team had one of the most intense matches in years for their 2007 home opener against Bucknell. The game combined for 25 shots, 10 saves, six yellow cards and two overtimes. After the 110th minute, the match between the Pennsylvania rivals ended 0-0.

Both teams had their chances. Just 3:09 into the match, Duquesne's Pat Flinn was stopped by Bucknell keeper Joey Kuterbach. The defensive struggle continued as shot from both teams were wide or high of the net. Bucknell's scoring chance in the 43rd minute was stopped by DU's keeper Chris Torres. The first half was very closely played as the Dukes had seven shots to Bucknell's six.

The second half was even more passionate as both teams elevated their aggressive play. Bucknell was whistled for eight fouls and Duquesne committed seven fouls. BU had a scoring chance in the 86th minute, but Tommy McCabe's header was wide of the net. The game went back and forth for the remainder of regulation as both teams could not generate a shot.

After a five-minute intermission, the first 10-minute overtime began. The Bison had a scoring chance less than a minute into the extra frame as Mark Schmiegle was stopped DU's Torres. BU's Conor O'Brien had a chance in the 104th minute but his shot was blocked.

In the second overtime, DU's Travis McKenzie had an opportunity foiled by Bucknell's Kuterbach. The teams continued to grind it out on the field of play until the horn sounded ending the game in a deadlock in the 110th minute.

The Dukes travel to Morgantown to take on West Virginia Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. before heading to Richmond, Va. for a tournament facing Campbell (9/14) and Binghamton (9/15). The Red & Blue will return home for a pair of game against Niagara (9/21) and Cleveland State (9/23).
