St. Bonaventure, N.Y. - Even though both Duquesne and St. Bonaventure pitching permitted just five hits apiece, the host Bonnies were able to gain a 4-0 win in the rubber match of the three-game Atlantic 10 Conference series, Sunday afternoon at SBU's Fred Handler Park.
The Dukes' quintet were all singles; three of the Bonnies' hits were for extra bases.
SBU capitalized on Brian Pellegrini's first inning homer, his 12th of the year, and Kieran Malone's two RBI double in the fifth. A sacrifice fly in the sixth accounted for the final score.
Mike Carroll went 2-for-4. Alex Sharick (1-6), who struck out five and walked none in six innings while allowing three earned runs, was charged with the loss. Ryan Juran and Keith Meyer pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
St. Bonaventure's Cody Vincent (4-6) garnered a complete game victory. SBU is now 21-21 and 11-9 in conference play.
Duquesne (17-25, 7-14 A-10) travels to Cleveland, Ohio for their second game in a week with Cleveland State (10-35). The Tuesday, May 8, 2007, match will start at 5:00 p.m. at Pipe Yard Stadium. The Dukes beat the Vikings, 9-5, last Wednesday.
