Niagara Falls, N.Y. - Niagara stopped Duquesne's five-game winning streak by taking a 12-11 victory Tuesday afternoon at Sal Maglie Stadium.
Aaron Janusey went 2-for-5, Eric Morrison hit a 2-RBI homer and Joe Beletic drove in two for Duquesne, which efficiently scored 11 runs on just eight hits. Paul Bugajski (1-1) was charged with the loss.
Niagara, which was playing its final home game of the year, had a 6-0 lead as the Red and Blue headed to its fourth turn at the plate. Duquesne registered eight runs on six hits and two walks to grab their first lead of the day, 8-6. The Purple Eagles put up their third trio of runs in the bottom of that inning to get back on top, 9-8.
DU tied the game at 9-9 on Brian Bernardo's RBI grounder in the fifth. Niagara answered in the bottom of the frame on Tim Alberts' home run and Harrison Herber's RBI single. Morrrison's two-run round tripper in the sixth tied the game again, this time at 11-11.
Steve Baldinelli's single drove in James Nikolaides, who led NU's 17-hit attack by going 3-for-4 with four RBI, with the go-ahead run. Geoff Strong controlled the Dukes in the ninth for his sixth save. Jessel Mangal (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings and was credited with the non-conference win for the 15-29 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference team.
DU returns to Pittsburgh for their final home game this season tomorrow, Wednesday, May 16th, at 1:00 p.m. against the Horizon League's Youngstown State (16-32) at Duquesne Field in Green Tree, Pa.
Duquesne (22-26, 10-14 Atlantic 10) closes the regular schedule with a three-game series at George Washington (20-30-1, 11-13 A-10) beginning Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. at Barcroft Park in Arlington, Va.
