Youngstown, Ohio - Eric Morrison's five RBI, a pair coming from a home run and two more from a triple, helped Duquesne to an 18-11 victory over Youngstown State Tuesday afternoon at the Penguins' Cene Park in Struthers, Ohio.
Morrison went 3-for-6. Mike Carroll, who also homered, was 3-for-5 with two RBI. Aaron Janusey hit the Dukes' third round tripper of the day. Bill Torre, Joe Berletic and Alex Sharick had two hits apiece.
Starter Travis Rife (1-3), who was the pitcher of record when the Dukes bounced back from a 7-6 deficit with six runs in the top of sixth, picked up his first win of the season.
The Dukes, leading 6-2 entering the bottom of the fifth, saw YSU rally for five runs and the 7-6 lead, the home team's only advantage of the day. Youngstown State answered DU's six runs in the sixth with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit to 12-10.
Duquesne put up five runs in the eighth and an insurance run in the ninth while the Penguins added one in their pentultimate at-bat for the Red & Blue's seven-run non-conference win, The victory also ended DU's three-game losing streak
Youngstown State (9-15) was led by Tom Clayton, who was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Reliever Corey Hornyak (1-1) was charged with the loss.
Duquesne (11-12) returns to Pittsburgh to host another non-conference opponent, Akron (13-8) of the Mid-American Conference, tomorrow, Wedneasday, April 4, 2007, on Duquesne Field in Green Tree, Pa. at 3:00 p.m.
