Rhode Island Tops Dukes, 9-6

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Duquesne's baseball team was topped by Rhode Island, 9-6, Friday afternoon at Duquesne Field in the Pittsburgh suburbs.

Bill Torre led Duquesne's offense, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Alex Sharick went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Joe Kaye (2-2), who entered the game in the seventh, was charged with the loss.

Rhode Island took a 4-0 lead to the bottom of third when Duquesne halved the margin via Torre's two-run homer. The Rams matched that with two in top of the fourth for a 6-2 edge.

The Dukes scored one in the fourth and three in the sixth to tie the game at 6-6. But URI answered back with one in the seventh and two in the ninth for the three-run win.

Five Rhode Island players had two hits, led by Eric Larsen who drove in three runs. Reliever Jamie Degido (1-2) picked up his first win of the season.

Duquesne (10-10, 3-1 Atlantic 10) and URI (3-16,1-3) continue the three-game weekend series tomorrow, Saturday, March 31, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. on Duquesne Field in Green Tree, Pa. The finale is scheduled for noon Sunday.
