Dukes Sweep DH with 8-3 Win at La Salle

Philadelphia, Pa. - Sophomore Mike Carroll's (New Martinsville, WV / Magnolia) second home run of the day highlighted a four-run first inning for the Dukes who swept Saturday's doubleheader and evened their season record with an 8-3 win in the nightcap at Hank DeVincent Field. Classmate Gary Pierpont (Canonsburg, PA / Canon McMillan) allowed two runs in six innings for his second win of the season.

Junior Eric Morrison (Pittsburgh, PA / Bethel Park) was 4-for-5 with two RBI. Classmate Aaron Janusey (Venetia, PA / Peters Township) tallied his second multi-hit game of the day with three hits in four at-bats.

Junior Pat Kimutis (Washington, PA / Trinity) and redshirt sophomore Bill Torre (Pittsburgh, PA / Bethel Park) each added a pair of hits for the Dukes, who scored eight runs on 14 hits.

Pierpont (2-1) held the Explorers to seven hits while striking out three and walking none. Junior Nick Jones (Exton, PA / Henderson) and senior Joe Kaye (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) completed the final three frames for the Red & Blue, who extended their winning steak to four games.

Duquesne added a pair in the fourth and two more in the sixth for an 8-0 edge before LSU hit the scoreboard with two runs in their next at-bat. La Salle added a run in the eighth for the final score of 8-3.

La Salle starter Kenny Elkind (1-2) was charged with the loss. Bill Kern was 3-for-4 and Mike Dertouzos smacked his first home run of the season for the 7-10 home team.

The Dukes, who evened their season mark to 8-8, complete the weekend series with La Salle on Sunday, March 25, 2007 at 12:00 Noon.
