Atlanta, Ga. - Duquesne's baseball team dropped the series finale with nationally-ranked Georgia Tech, 15-6, Sunday afternoon at the Yellow Jackets' Russ Chandler Stadium.
Georgia Tech rushed out to a 5-0 second innning lead before the Dukes hit the scoreboard. Duquesne scored one in the fourth, another in the fifth, and added four in the seventh while the Rambling Wreck was putting up 10 more runs. The 15/16 ACC team scored in every inning except the third and eighth while recording 17 hits.
Junior Derek Mechling hit a two-run homer, his first of the year, in the seventh. Sophomore Bill Torre (5-1-2-1) was the only Duke to get more than one hit. Senior Travis Rife was charged with the loss.
The Dukes (0-3) next head to Clearwater, Florida for their annual spring trek away from the late winter in Pittsburgh. They will face Ohio State, Sacred Heart, Lehigh, Central Michigan, Harvard and Notre Dame from Saturday March 3 through Sunday, March 11, 2007. Duquesne will also play an exhibition game with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday, March 8th at the Buccos' spring training facility in Bradenton, Fla.
