Dukes Fall 59-44 at Xavier

Duquesne (7-11, 2-3) suffered a 59-44 loss at Xavier (15-6, 3-2) in an Atlantic 10 contest Friday night at the Cintas Center. Senior Loui Hall led all scorers with 20 points and junior Jade Singleton added 10 markers. Junior Jocelyn Chandler led the Red & Blue with seven rebounds. Xavier was paced by Amber Harris with 16 points and a game-best 16 rebounds.

Loui Hall opened play hitting back-to-back threes for a 6-0 lead which would be extended to a 10-3 lead after Kristi Little hit a lay-up and followed with another after a steal at the 15:17 mark. Duquesne would lead by as many as nine points with the last being 16-9 after a Hall put-back at 8:43. A Xavier three-pointer at 8:31 cut the lead for DU to 16-10 and started an 8-2 run for the Musketeers to bring the host to an 18-5 reach at 4:53. Carmen Bruce's jumper at 4:27 ended a 3:02 scoring drought for the Dukes for a 20-15 margin, but the Musketeers would close out the game on an 8-0 run, four points of which came from steals, for a 23-20 lead at the half. Duquesne would score just six points in the final 8:43 on the contest and Xavier grabbed its first lead, 21-20, with :33 on the clock. Neither team shot well from the field as DU was 9-25 (.360) and Xavier went 9-37 (.237) for the half. Xavier held a 27-18 rebounding margin, which included 14 offensive boards.

Xavier upped its lead to 27-20 early in the first half before Hall put the Dukes on the board and started a 6-0 run as Jade Singleton hit the inbound from Bruce with :01 on the clock at 17:09 and sank the put-back from an offensive board at 16:37 for a 27-26 reach for the Red & Blue. Jocelyn Chandler gave DU a 30-29 lead and Hall put the Dukes ahead 33-31 with 13:08 ticking, but Xavier went on a 7-0 run and regain the lead with a 38-33 edge with 11:50 on the clock. Hall hit her 18th point of the game at 11:09 for a 38-35 reach, but the Musketeers rattled off a 12-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 51-37 lead at 5:03 remained. Four unanswered by the Dukes brought it to a 51-41 reach which before Xavier hit a 6-0 run of its own for a 57-41 Musketeer lead. Gosia Flaga would end the game's scoring with a three pointer for DU, but Xavier would take the win 59-44.

Duquesne edged out the Musketeers from the field .370 (20-54) to .369 (24-65) but Xavier led 46-32 in rebounding, grabbing 20 on the offensive side. The Dukes suffered 19 turnovers and Xavier recorded 15 turnovers in the contest.
