Game Time

Friday marks the second Atlantic 10 Conference opponent for the Dukes, who are looking to win back-to-back games for the first time since they won the Cornell Classic (Dec. 1 & 2) ... the Red & Blue are in the midst of a six-game home series ... DU is 3-4 at home this year ... Rhode Island is coming off a 71-69 overtime win vs. UMass Jan. 9 ... the Rams are 3-12 overall, which includes a 1-8 road record ... URI travels to Philadelphia to take on La Salle Jan. 14.

The Coaches

Duquesne's Dan Durkin is in his 14th season at the helm of the Duquesne women's basketball program and as a head coach. He posts a 175-205 career mark. Durkin is a 1975 graduate of Mount St. Mary's.

Rhode Island's Tom Garrick is in his third full season with the Rams after serving as interim head coach for 21 games in 2003-04. He is 30-62 overall at the helm of URI. Garrick is a 1989 graduate of Rhode Island.

This is the 37th meeting between Duquesne and Rhode Island ... Duquesne leads the series 19-17 ... the first meeting between the Dukes and Rams was Dec. 10, 1983, a 75-55 URI victory ... this rivalry has been one of streaks ... URI won the first five games of the series ... DU answered by pulling off wins in nine of the next 11 contests ... the Rams countered by winning eight straight ... the Red & Blue responded with seven consecutive victories ... DU is 66th in the country in scoring defense (59.3); 68th in personal fouls (16.4); 85th in field goal pct. (.380); 94th in turnovers (16.9) and 99th in free throw pct. (.708) ... the Dukes close out a six-game home stand next Thursday hosting Saint Louis.

Rhode Island is coming off an 8-20 season in 2006. The Rams enter the contest 3-12 overall after a 71-69 overtime win vs. UMass Jan. 9. URI is lead by Preseason Atlantic 10 Second-Team Safi Mojidi's 13.9 points per game. Sierra Cooper owns a team-best 5.0 rebounds per game. The Rams have won two of their past three games after starting out the season 1-11. URI plays smart posting just 15.2 turnovers per game placing them 29th in the country and they are 82nd with 16.6 personal fouls per game.
