Duquesne University baseball coach Mike Wilson recently announced the addition of three players to his 2007 roster. Freshmen Johnny Elms (Ellwood City, PA/Riverside) and Chris Happ (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) as well as sophomore transfer Jayson Vaughn (Indiana, PA/Indiana/La Roche) will join early signee Paul Bugajski (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) on the 2007 team.
Elms boasted a 14-0 record on the mound in leading the Panthers to the WPIAL Class AA title and a second consecutive PIAA title. The Post-Gazette West Player of the Year finished his varsity career with a 25-1 record, including victories in his final 24 starts.
Happ was named a Post-Gazette South All-Star after hitting 494 (44 for 89) with 10 doubles, five homers, 23 RBIs and 34 runs scored. He batted .579 (11 for 19) in the play-offs and helped the Blue Devils (18-7) win a WPIAL Class AAAA championship and reach the PIAA quarterfinals
Vaughn comes to Duquesne as a transfer from La Roche College where he went 4-3 in 2005 as a freshman with a 2.40 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 48 2/3 innings. As a prep, he was a two-time Indiana Gazette All-Star, a WPIAL All-Star and an Indiana County Hall of Fame honoree.
