Duquesne Logos at a Glance

There's a new Duke in town. Duquesne University Director of Athletics Greg Amodio unveiled an aggressive look for DU's 20-sport intercollegiate athletics program with the release of a new logo this afternoon on GoDuquesne.com.
The primary mark, a determined top-hatted Duke with a flowing cape above the words "Duquesne Dukes," replaces the script "Duquesne" used by the department since the fall of 1998.
The department of athletics will begin using the new mark immediately and will discontinue use of the old logo over the upcoming school year.
"The release of our logo - in addition to re-branding our program - signals a new approach to how we do business," said Amodio. "We feel our new marks are aggressive, bold and contemporary and will only enhance the image of Duquesne and its athletics programs. We began this process in December and the logo went through a number of focus groups which included current students, student-athletes, alumni, staff and friends of the department. I think the Duquesne community will be pleased with the result."
The new identity program for Duquesne Athletics was created by award-winning Rickabaugh Graphics of Columbus, Ohio and includes the following marks:
A primary mark that features both a logo (a new-look Duke) and word mark (Duquesne)
Sport-specific logos that incorporate both Duquesne and Dukes word marks
Secondary marks which include the Duquesne "D" and a separate Duke head.
"I really like the new look," said first-year men's basketball coach Ron Everhart. "That Duke really looks like he means business. I think the image is something fans of Duquesne will rally around."
"The new logos will help instill a renewed sense of pride in the University and our athletic programs," said senior women's basketball player and focus group member Carmen Bruce. "It was great to have the opportunity to provide input during the selection process. I know the new logos will be well-received by the student body."
The new logo is part of an overall identity update by the department.
"We are also working with CSTV in redesigning and updating our website," said Amodio. "We expect a new launch with our new branding in mid-October. We want to make this an exciting time to be a part of Duquesne athletics."
